One of the best things about the A Is For project has been meeting, and shooting, some of my favorite actors. This was from the day we shot Frances Fisher, Sarah Paulson and Holland Taylor.

Born and raised in central New Jersey, I have never pretended to be from New York. My parents were Manhattan exiles and suburban bohemians; Michael Avallone wrote pulp fiction, Frances Avallone ran the NJ Right to Choose out of the spare bedroom. I moved to Hollywood shortly after four years at hippie paradise Bard College with my fashion sense and brain cells relatively unscathed. I’ve been making movies, in one way or another, since I was fifteen, but professionally since 1986. The rampant absurdity of my career trajectory can be inferred from my chaotic IMDb page, but nowadays I’m mostly directing, writing or editing on independent projects. My spectacular wife Augusta is a filmmaker and costumer, and dances/produces burlesque as Penny Starr, Jr.
